Fall Cookout

 

 On Oct 25,2013 there was a Fall cookout held at the principles house of Richard bland college. Tiara and I decided to go after class to attend. There was plenty of food and people to attend. I felt if I was at my own family cookout, I was welcomed with a smile and asked how my first year was going. It was a good place to mingle with friends and just to sit out and relax near some nice calm water...There was enough food that the Statesmen grill provided and it was free so it was no excuse why people said they was hungry or they didn't have any food to eat because it was plenty...After getting my food I did leave because I don't like to be outside eating and bugs com e around my food. I think more things should be held on campus more to do and a way to mingle around with everybody that you haven't met yet. Being that it was my first time down that way, it was very nice overall !

Grammar Schrammar Presentation

 

 

Hunter, Karmin and myself presented a class project on Quotation with Quotation, It was kind of a hard subject to teach off of because nobody in the group really knew what it meant. At first we were going to do a video and then we decided to let Sweeney record us in class and I felt more comfortable with that rather than having someone watch what we recorded. After all getting in class and presenting it wasn't as bad as I thought ,so my whole point is I have slowly gotten out the ways of being sky and nervous in talking in front of people. Our next topic is on Further vs Farther anyone have any idea what this means? I don't want to present with a blank stare...This class has yet been the easiest English class ive ever taken having a contract no quizzes, test, homework, is the best feeling ever and only 3papers to write the entire semester I couldn't ask for a better English teacher :)





In class we have been talking about writing our papers based on what we wrote about in the previous and I don't know what to write because I haven't gotten my previous paper back to make corrections. The rough draft for the following paper is due on Monday Oct, 21 with 750 words to be written and I have nothing. I'm not really taking this class serious, because I'm not really being motivated to do work even though I know it needs to be done. There are no grades in this class except we have beyond class to do and these 3 papers, there is no other quizzes tests, or anything to boost my grade so there for attendance and getting good grades on this paper is well needed. I really don't see a point in going to this class because we don't do any work in class unless we are behind just need the time to blog or ask questions, but bye the way I can take this class anytime because all you really have to do is show up !!!!!!

Fall Break

 

My first year of college and my first fall break was pretty boring it rained since Wednesday the night I left college until I returned that Sunday evening. I went to a bond fire in the rain it was cold and I spend a lot of my time with my family. The best part of it all was getting to bring the car back to college with me it made me feel more on my own and more responsible.! Fall break went by pretty quick before you knew it, it was over and school was around the corner. It gave me time to myself not to do any school work and just to be away from the college life, but my friends were missed. Before leaving for fall break things got hetic and that Tuesday was a rough night because people knew it was fall break the next day and there were no classes. After fall break things seem to go  back to normal, but I also think break shoud be a lot longer. 

Using commas

 

 

 

The presentation that was done in class on commas and using semicolons helped me with knowing how to use them in the future. I never knew where to put commas I always would use to have my sentences running on. Using commas makes me pause into going into what else you have to say. Now I can go back and rely on where to put them. Commas were my biggest fear because I always thought they would be in the wrong spot. That was the best presentations used so far I have actually learned something in English that I didn't know. They were well organized and knew what they were going to talk about. They weren't silly and all laughing and didn't get me of subject. Doing these presentations in class help because you get to teach somebody what they might not know and it was helpful it me. It has got me out my comfort zone.



Peer revision In Class

 

 

We were given a topic in class to write about a experience we have had in English, language and I choose how I didn't think i wasn't going to make it out of high school. High school was a struggle for me it took a lot out of me to pass. After getting accepted into college it changed me around a lot I took things a lot more serious. It came to me that college was going to be better and bigger things to worry about and high school was just a little turn around to get me on the right track. Once I got started with college things had to settle down and things had to get more serious. I think I love college more than anything and now I think I can pass college English without having little things worry me 

Beyond Class

 

 

 

On September 23,2013 I went to a Richard Bland soccer game. I never knew anything about soccer but getting out of my dorm it was something to do. Soccer has never been my sport to watch because I don't know any rules and to me its just kicking the ball into the golly and running. As the game started off they came with a easy golly and scored, and Bland was getting upset because they got first goal. Soccer is a very competitive sport and it comes down to winning or loosing. There was a couple times when I thought there was going to be a fight and the game was going to shut down, but they were just competing. The game turned out to be a good game and I think we actually won after all.
The team seemed to be happy overall about their win and seem to play well as a team

Septmeber 16

Our class met in the library on Monday Sept 16. We had a library tour on how to checkout books and also how to use the shelves.  Everyone was so amazed on how to experience how the shelves moved in and out.  After the tour of the library going back to the community room to get to know how to  use the library website was interesting . The library offers a lot of books and magazines for research.  If there book that is not there and you need then a way to get it, is to order it so it can be shipped. Writing papers and using different formats are also on the website.  After learning all the different way to find different the library is actually helpful !

The girl parents were German , daughter say a recording is not a good way to learn language. the story was basically from generation to generation. Her research and scholar work was not her experience. " I speak in an inherited academic voice that isn't hers. It was thrill of the pull between someone else's authority and our own, between submission and independence that we must discover how to define ourself. She lived by the lyrical dream change always believing a new vision is possible. Hearing her mothers voice was her guide and the Bible was her AAA tour guide when they traveled ! In todays life people don't like to use their own authority because they think that everyone else's word is better they don't like to experience new. Her mother has taught her this far to talk German and tried to get her to understand English but she couldn't because growing up she was around German and that's how she was raised to talk German.

When I got accepted into Richard Bland that was a turning point of my life. I was excited but nervous.  As it got closer for me to move in I was sheading tears everyday, because leaveing my family was hard. After getting into the dorms and meeting new people everything seemed to calm down.  My first two weekends I left and went back home to Mom and Dad. Realizing that independence was coming in a blink of an eye it told me that you have to be your own person.

I though I wouldn't like the college life but after getting around and knowing people it became fun.

Living in the dorms well sorta apartments is like almost having my own house, thinking of a dorm is just like having a bed with no extra, but Richard Bland has pushed me to almost like having my own home to take care of . We are been provided a full kitchen and a bathroom, washer and dryer, living room, and also your own bedroom !.. Richard Bland is the top community colleges that has a campus to live on you wouldn't find this at no other 2year school . I will be continuing Richard Bland for the next 2years and planning on transferring in the spring of 2015!
